”History as Weapon and Victim in Russia’s War against Ukraine” - A Discusson sponsored by CBEES, Södertörn University
While a war is fought in the real time of the present day, it is
also narrated and legitimised ideologically
through constant references to history and memory. At the same time, the
engagement with history is material and practical as well, in the sense that
battlefield warfare reshapes and destroys historical landscapes, cityscapes,
and other repositories of national heritage.
We invite you to join three Ukrainian historians—Julia Malitska,
Oleksandr Polianichev and Roman Horbyk—for a discussion of the various ways in
which history plays an important role in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The discussion will be moderated by Mark Bassin, Baltic Sea
Professor of the History of Ideas. All participants are from Södertörn
University."
